A check of a vehicle as it passed a police car revealed there was no record of a registration for the Toyota Camry, which was stopped at about 1 p.m. Dec. 31 on the Post Road, police said.

After the stop, the driver gave officers a false name, according to police reports. Officers discovered his name was Mahwanga Campbell, 25, of 4154 Bronxwood Ave., the Bronx, N.Y.

Police charged him with failing to insure a motor vehicle, interfering with police, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to display a front license plate, misuse of plate, operating without a license and possession of less than a half ounce of marijuana.

Police checked the passenger, Derrick McKenzie, 57, of 3206 Mickel Ave., the Bronx, N.Y. and discovered there was a warrant for him on charges of fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child from the Stonington Police Department, police said. He was turned over to Stonington Police at 6 p.m.
